Keohane Goes GREEN
LED Fixture
  • We recently converted forty five incandescent recessed bulbs to LED technology. This change saves the equivalent of removing one car from the road annually.
  • These cutting edge LED fixtures use 12 watts of power, last for 20 years, contain zero mercury (unlike CFLs), and improve light quality.
Memorial Prayer Card Stock
  • Our custom memory/prayer card stock is now made from 50% recycled and 15% post consumer recycled material. They are amazing cards and you won’t find them anywhere else.
Massachusetts Memorial Tree Program
  • The Massachusetts Memorial Tree Program is a joint effort of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs and the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association. This program provides communities with annual grants to plant hundreds of shade trees which will continue to grow for generations as a living memorial. We have been an active participant in this program for over 10 years, planting trees throughout the South Shore.
Solar Panels
  • We are in the process of examining the feasibility of installing solar panels on our facilities with Lighthouse Electric. Unfortunately, our buildings do not offer the best exposure to the southern sky, but we’re hoping for a solution. We’ll keep you posted!
Massachusetts State Seal
  • For years, most of our wood caskets have been manufactured here in Massachusetts. This greatly reduces the carbon emissions needed for transport and delivery and also supports the local economy.
Green Burial Council
  • Keohane Funeral & Cremation Service is the first funeral provider in Massachusetts to be certified by the Green Burial Council. They are a national organization that has been working to make burial sustainable for the planet, meaningful for families, and economically viable for the provider. They have emerged as the "gold standard" among consumers, land trusts, park service agencies as well the cemetery/funeral profession.
New England Green Burial Society
  • We created the New England Green Burial Society as a resource for those interested in the concept of green burial. Offering flexible solutions and products made from sustainable materials and free of toxins, we stand as the leader in environmentally friendly funeral options.

Our search and innovative ways to conserve will continue. Let us know if you have any good tips. We’d love to hear from you!
