Anita Kathryn Kiely

Kiely, Anita Kathryn (Maxwell),  age 93, of Hingham, Massachusetts died peacefully in her sleep on July 22, 2014 after a brief illness. 

Born in Quincy, Massachusetts to Robert and Theresa (McKeon) Maxwell, she graduated from North Quincy High School and Regis College, Class of 1943.  After graduating from Regis, she worked first in the test kitchen of the Boston Gas Company and then as a dietitian for the Carney Hospital in Boston until her marriage in 1947 to James J. Kiely.  After raising five children in Hingham, she returned to work in the mid-1970s, accepting employment at Talbot’s corporate headquarters in Hingham where she remained employed until 2006. She also volunteered for several years as a Doric Dame, giving tours of the State House in Boston, and after retirement from Talbot’s, was a bi-weekly volunteer at the Hingham Senior Center until last year.

Anita was predeceased by her husband of 53 years.  She is survived by her daughter Camille M. Kelleher and husband Rory of New York City; by her sons Rev. Brian R. Kiely, of Newton, Mass; Barry R. Kiely and wife Susan of Hingham; and Mark S. Kiely and wife Lisa of New York City; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, Harriett Norton of Dorchester and Phyllis Bai of Old Saybrook, Connecticut.  Her son James J. Kiely Jr. also predeceased her.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass in Resurrection Church, Hingham, at 10 AM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Dr. James J.Kiely ’41 (B.A.), ’48 (M.A.) and Anita K. Kiely Scholarship at Boston College or St. Anthony’s Shrine in Boston.
