Barbara J. Hanian

Barbara J. (Stonely) Hanian, 90, of Weymouth, died on September 16, 2014, with family by her side.

Born in Hull, Barbara was educated in Hingham and Weymouth, graduating from Weymouth High School in 1941. It was on the tennis courts of Legion Field in Weymouth that she met her husband, Ernie Hanian. From then on Barbara’s focus was as a wife and mother. She also took great interest in her husband’s construction business, assisting in many ways. Barbara loved activities that engaged the mind, especially jigsaw and word puzzles, but her greatest love was reading.  In her later years there was always a book by her side. She also enjoyed watching sporting events – the Red Sox, Patriots and, in particular, figure skating.  She swam regularly for several decades and was proud to say that she will still swimming laps at 86 years of age.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband Ernie, and is survived by their three children; Bette Hanian of Weymouth, Susan Vincent of Rockland, and Ray Hanian of Newry, ME; her son-in-law Tom Vincent and daughter-in-law Debra Hanian.  She also leaves two grandsons, Kevin Hanian, and Eric Hanian, wife Meaghan and their son, Tyler Hanian. Barbara was the sister of the late Paul Stonely, Virginia Thorburn, Eleanor Boodro, and Dorothea Cicchese.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home EAST WEYMOUTH at 3 Charles Street (corner of Charles & Middle Street). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. Burial in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Weymouth.

The Hanian family would like to thank the staff and residents at the Allerton House in Hingham for their compassion, care and friendship during Barbara’s four year residency.
