McAndrews, Dorothy Therese (Stearns) of Weymouth, passed away peacefully at South Shore Hospital September 11, 2014.

Beloved mother of Michael W. Hayes and his wife Wanda of Louisiana, Mark J. Hayes of Oakland, CA and Edward E. McAndrews, Jr. and his wife Susan of Weymouth. Loving former spouse of Edward McAndrews of Weymouth. Dear step-mother of  Russell McAndrews and his wife Donna and their children Jonathan and Ashley Marks of Weymouth and the late David McAndrews. Loving step-mother-in-law of Debra McAndrews of Weymouth. Dear sister of the late William Stearns. Cherished grandmother of  Ryan, Michael, Edward E. McAndrews III and Jessica R. Atwater.

Dotty grew up in Dorchester. She is a graduate of  St. Margaret’s Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1953. As a nurse at St. Margaret’s, she worked in all departments, however, she particularly loved working in the Neo-Natal unit as well as the Premature Observation Room Nursery. One of her co-workers fondest memory of Dotty was of her “walking swiftly up the hall, having a lot of fun.”

Later, Dotty, wife of a former Commodore,  was an active member of the Wessagusset Yacht Club in Weymouth where she was involved in the Ladies Auxiliary. She loved spending time on the water, especially boating to her favorite destinations; Provincetown, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Florida and the Bahama Islands.

Dorothy, an ordained minister, was the founder of “Women for Jesus”, a christian ministry for men and women. As a mentor to many people, she enjoyed leading bible studies as well as prayer groups. She opened her home and heart to everyone she met. As her ministry grew she served the Lord on several mission trips to China and Nigeria. Through her efforts, many people found there faith in Jesus as their savior.

An impeccable dresser, Dorothy was a real lady of exceptional honor, grace and class. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved life. She will be greatly missed, never forgotten and always in our hearts. All who knew her will miss you dearly.
