Janet M. Newman

Janet Marie (Melanson) Newman, 78, of Weymouth, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease at Colonial Nursing Home surrounded by her family and friends on August 15, 2014.

Born in Dover, New Hampshire, she was the eldest daughter of Albert and Claire (Bradley) Melanson, sister of Albert R. Melanson, Claire Cassell, Judith Manley, Joyce Hill, Dorothy Hutchins and the late Joseph Melanson.

Beloved wife of the late Arthur E. (Archie) Newman, she was the loving mother of Julianne and Mounir Mazzawi of Walpole, Arthur E. Newman Jr. of Weymouth, Larry and Sonya Newman of E. Bridgewater, Janette and Richard Raab of Walpole, Matthew and Suzanne Newman of Pembroke, Peter and Anne Newman of Weymouth, Jude and Letitia Newman of Rockland, Damien and Betsy Newman of Needham, Luke and Kerilynn Newman of Easton, cherished grandmother of Marta Mazzawi and CJ Greenebaum, Malek and Max Mazzawi, Hope Newman, Olivia and Thomas Waitekus, Matthew and Abigail Newman, Peter Jr., Jared and Rachel Newman, Maura and Maeve Newman, and Liam Newman.

Janet is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends, especially her dear friend of sixty years, Sheila Roche of Sagamore.

Janet was in the first graduating class at Archbishop Williams High School and went to Wyndham Business School.  Janet worked briefly as a medical assistant before starting her career as a full-time wife and mother. After the death of her husband, Janet was employed by the Weymouth Public School Administration. 

She was a talented pianist, enjoyed singing with the Immaculate Conception choir, volunteered at the Abigail Adams Historical Society, and helped to organize the annual Colonial Corners 4th of July events.  What was most important to her was spending time with family and friends. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours 3-8PM on Wednesday in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off RT.3A-Bicknell Sq.). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:00AM Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 10:00AM. Burial in Milton Cemetery, Milton.
