Leopoldo L. DeFilippo, Sr.

DeFilippo, Leopoldo L., Sr. of Hull, died August 18, 2014. 

Leo proudly served in the United States Army as a Paratrooper in the 11th Airborne during WWII. He was a 7th infantry escort for the war dead, served in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, Nichols Field Luzon, and Japan. He was a part of the Roofers Union Local #33 and a member of the Sons of Italy. He never missed a Red Sox game and will be remembered for his dry humor and his generous nature. Those who knew him would describe him as “a character, but a man of character.” Family was his pride and joy and he will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him. 

Beloved husband of the late Dorothy A. (McGurr) DeFilippo. Devoted father to Caren A. Coppola and her husband Donald, Francesco L. DeFilippo and his wife Terry, Elisa R. DeFilippo, Leopoldo L. DeFilippo Jr., Teresa J. DeFilippo and her husband Kevin, and Marc DeFilippo. Cherished grandfather to Nicole M. Rakitin and her husband Jason, Nicholas A. and Alana R. Coppola, Lukas H. Watkins, and Christina K. DeFilippo. Doting great-grandfather of Amelia R. and Eden L. Rakitin. Loving brother to Eleanor Emond and her husband Edward. Predeceased by brothers and sisters. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Parish in St. Ann’s Church, Hull at 10 AM. Burial in Hull Village Cemetery, Hull.
