Mercedes Leigh Kearney

Kearney, Mercedes Leigh of Hingham, died in a motor vehicle accident November 23, 2013 at the age of 25.

Mercedes grew up in Hingham, graduating from Hingham High School and Blaine Beauty School. She later lived in Mashpee and Las Vegas before coming home to Hingham. Growing up, Mercedes enjoyed horseback riding and swimming. She always had a special place in her heart for dogs and could often be found rescuing them and taking in any strays she encountered. Mercedes will be remembered for her big heart and constant desire to help others in need, any way she could. Her beautiful, free spirit will be sadly missed. 

Cherished daughter of Richard “Dick” Kearney of the North End of Boston and Mercedes Kearney of Hingham. Beloved granddaughter of Isabel Drain of Silver Spring, Md. Loving sister of Matthew Kearney and his wife Jill of Swampscott and Jennifer Kearney and her companion Peter MacLean of West Roxbury. Devoted “Auntie” of MacKenzie, Samuel and Casey Kearney. Dear niece of Martin Drain of Clarkesville, Md., Margaret Lawrence of Chevy Chase, Md., Francis Kearney of Bourne, Paul Kearney of Hobe Sound, Fl., and the late Madelon Butler, of Olney, Md. Former wife of Alex Leary of Las Vegas. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital)  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9 AM Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 10 AM. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Mercedes may be made to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Avenue, Salem, MA 01970.
