Paul A. Lutz

Lutz, Paul A., Capt. USCG (retired),  of Hingham, passed away November 16, 2013.

Beloved husband of the late Esther M. (McElroy) Lutz.

Loving father of Therese Lutz of Elkridge, MD, Michele Meade and her husband, Stephen, of Hingham,  Paula Lutz and her husband, Dick Kuehl, of Weston, and Cecilia Lutz and her husband, Steven Ward, of Reston, VA.  Proud grandfather of Christina, Cullen, and Mackenzie Meade, Erin and Duncan Reid, Kerry Ward and Marina and Ted Anastopoulos. Brother of Joan Wakefield and her husband, Harold of Indiana, and the late Rosemary Farley and John Lutz. Brother-in law of Sr. Theresa McElroy of Scranton, PA. 

Beloved by family and friends for his boundless love of life, wonderful sense of humor, unwavering devotion to his family and his fellow sailors, and the ability to tell everyone a sea story (or two).   A proud graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Capt. Lutz spent much of his 30 year career at sea, including combat service in World War II and Vietnam.  He ended his military career as the Chief of Staff of the First Coast Guard District. Born and raised in Crafton, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he resided in Hingham since 1968. 

He was a past President of the Boston Marine Society and member of the Hingham Harbor Committee. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM Saturday prior to the Funeral Mass in Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 10AM. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Hingham.
