Richard E. “Dick” O’Brien

Richard “Dick” E. O’Brien – of Quincy and Scituate, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Boston, MA on October 21, 2014.  

Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Kaarin Erlandson O’Brien of 35 years, their son Richard O’Brien of Brighton, and their daughter, Kirsten O’Brien of New York City.  He is also survived by four daughters with his first wife, the late Barbara Ann Spadorcia:  Kathleen Wirtz (Frank) of Weymouth, Tara O’Brien-Quinn (Peter) of Bourne, Laura O’Brien of Marshfield, and Lisa Pickering (Ralph) of Hull; six grandchildren:  Nichole, Christen and Jason Wirtz, Michael O’Brien, and Giovanna and Anthony Pickering; and great-grandson, Jaden Wirtz, son of Jason.  His brother Robert O’Brien of Miami additionally survives him.  

Dick was a proud United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War.  He served as a catapult mechanic aboard the USS Wasp (CV-17), with the VF-172 “Blue Bolts” air squadron.  His decorations include the Navy Good Conduct Medal, Navy Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal.  

Visiting hours will be held Friday, Oct. 24th from 4-8 PM at McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, 40 Sea St., North Weymouth, MA.  Funeral services will be on Saturday, Oct. 25th 10:30 AM at St. Agatha’s Parish, 432 Adams Street, Milton, MA.  Interment services will be held at a future date at the Massachusetts National Veterans’ Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
