William Joseph Coyle Jr.

Coyle, William Joseph, Jr. “Doc” of Weymouth, died November 14, 2014 surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Originally from Wallingford, CT, his service for his country took him to Korea where he served for three years in the Korean War.   After his time overseas he pursued his desire to further his education, receiving a BS from Fairfield University, immediately continuing on to achieve his Masters in French Education from Assumption College, and later completing his Ph.D. in French Language and Literature from the University of Connecticut in 1978. While studying abroad in France, he eloped to Paris with his loving wife of 51 years, Judith (Guilfoyle) Coyle.  After several years in Europe, Bill and Judy decided to move back to their roots in New England, purchasing a house in South Weymouth, MA in 1975. He taught at Bridgewater Raynham High School, where he shared his passion for the French language and culture with generations of students over the course of twenty years.  During his partial retirement, from 1995 to 2003, Bill enjoyed working as a driver for UPS on the south shore. Bill had various interests and hobbies including stained glass, gardening, playing guitar, woodworking and cycling.  An avid cyclist for a large portion of his life, he started the bicycle club at Bridgewater Raynham High School where he led cycling trips for his students during his tenure there. A passionate musician and music lover, he was always creating and sharing music with those around him.  He spent his retirement years at home in South Weymouth where he could be regularly seen tending his garden where he loved working with his hands.  When he was not at home in Weymouth, he was traveling to Naples, FL where he regularly enjoyed vacationing for almost twenty five years.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife Judith Ann Coyle of Weymouth. Loving father to Stephen William Coyle and his wife Mary of Newburyport and Amy Elizabeth Coyle and her partner David Butler of Danvers. Devoted brother to Anne Duffy and her husband Jim and Mary Elizabeth King. Also survived by his cherished grandchildren David, William, and Owen and many nieces and nephews.
