Agnes M. O'Brien, peacefully passed away on July 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 13, 1938, in South Boston, Agnes was a warm-hearted soul known for her vibrant spirit and nurturing nature.
Agnes began her professional journey with the telephone company, starting as an operator and steadily advancing through the ranks. After taking a break to dedicate herself to her family, she returned to the workforce, embodying the resilience and determination that defined her character.
She will be remembered fondly as the neighborhood mom, a welcoming presence who opened her home to all the neighborhood children, ensuring that no one felt left out. Her house was a hub of activity, especially during the holidays, where her culinary talents shone bright and guests could always count on a generous spread of delicious food.
Agnes was a woman who loved to tell ghost stories and enjoy horror movies, reflecting her fun-loving and social personality. She was always inclusive, reminding her family to "always be good" and to embrace everyone around them. Known as a troublemaker in a delightful way, she was a fierce protector of her family, embodying the spirit of a fighting Irish woman.
Among her interests, Agnes found joy in playing Bingo, cards, and piano, sharing her incredible musical talent by playing for her church choir in her youth. Dancing, reading, and sharing recipes further illuminated the rich tapestry of her lively spirit.
Agnes's proudest accomplishments were her family and her musical abilities, which she nurtured with a deep passion throughout her life. She was a natural musician, admired not only for her talents but also for the love and joy she brought into the lives of everyone she met.
Cherished mother to Cheryl O’ Brien of Whitman, Scott O’Brien of Weymouth, Michelle Strickland of Holbrook and the late Thomas O’Brien of Weymouth. Cherished Grandmother to Autumn, William and Abby Strickland. Sister to Patricia Connolly and the late Helen, Georgie and David Kelley. Agnes is predeceased by her former husband and long time friend Paul O’Brien. She also leaves behind many nieces, and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday 7/20/2025 from 2-5 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Funeral service will be celebrated on Monday 7/21/2025 at 11 AM in McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main St. (Rt. 18 opp. South Shore Hospital) , Weymouth. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree
