AnnMarie Downey, warmly referred to and mostly known as Nancy, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 81. Born on April 18, 1945, to the late John and Mildred Rogers, Nancy grew up in South Boston, the community she loved dearly. It was there that she put down roots, raised her family, and built a life centered on love, hard work, and unwavering devotion to those around her.

Nancy was the definition of a hard worker. She spent many years with Verizon, along with several other jobs throughout her life. Those who knew her often joked that working was her hobby because she was always on the go. She was driven, dependable, and took great pride in being a provider for her family.

Above all else, Nancy loved her family. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her children and grandchildren, whom she loved and was proud of. She treasured every moment with them and celebrated all of their accomplishments, big and small.

She also shared an incredibly close bond with her sisters, nieces, and nephews. They fondly remember the countless adventures they shared, especially the many vacations when Nancy happily took the wheel. She loved to drive and was always ready for the next road trip, creating memories that her family will cherish forever.

Nancy was one of a kind. She was outgoing, fearless, and tough as nails. She was a true trooper who faced life's challenges with strength and determination, but beneath that tough exterior was a heart overflowing with kindness and love. To Nancy, everyone deserved kindness, respect, and friendship. It didn't matter who you were; she welcomed everyone with an open heart.

Nancy loved to laugh, celebrate, and make memories. She enjoyed old Westerns, classic country music (especially Patsy Cline), karaoke nights, and an exciting game of bingo. She also had a special talent for crocheting, lovingly making hats and scarves for babies in need, each one stitched with care.

Nancy's legacy is one of unconditional love, resilience, generosity, and joy. She showed her family what it meant to work hard, love deeply, and treat every person with compassion. Her strength, laughter, and larger-than-life spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Nancy was the loving mother of John (Jack) Downey and PollyAnn Woodman, and her husband John, originally from South Boston, now living in Orleans. She was the cherished grandmother of John Abban, Marion, Jacob, Jack, and Paul Downey, Olivia, and Isabella Woodman.

She was the beloved sister of Jane White and the late Donald White; John (Jeff) and Betty Rogers; and Ellen Nagle and the late Hank Nagle.

Nancy was the loving aunt of Kathleen DiBattista and the late David DiBattista; Tracey and Ralph Hibbard; Donald and Erin White; Alex and Camille Nagle; Sean and Julie Nagle; Jesse and Peter Lazzarino; and Douglas and Whitney Rogers, along with many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Nancy was also a dear friend to Ed Byrne and the Roche family.

Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her love lives on in her children, grandchildren, family, and the countless friends whose lives she touched. Her memory will continue to inspire those she leaves behind to work hard, love without judgment, and never pass up the chance to enjoy life with the people who matter most.
