Ann “Penny” Glavin, a lifelong giver of joy, laughter, and unconditional love, passed away peacefully at her home in Quincy on October 10, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family. She was 78 years old.
Born in Boston to the late John and Jane (Logue) Griffin, Penny was one of six siblings and grew up in a household full of warmth that would later define her own home. She lived many years in Quincy, where she built a life centered around her family.
Penny was the beloved wife and best friend of Michael “Mikey” J. Glavin, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. Together, they created a home at 41 Hovey Street where the door was always open and the kettle was always on.
She was the loving mother of Mollie Good and her husband Bill of Scituate, Megan Glavin and her partner Brian Franklin, Annie Ahern, and Cornelius Glavin, all of Quincy. Penny loved her children deeply, and her grandchildren, Joseph Gaglione and his partner Shauna O’Donovan, Sarah, Rachel, Bridget, Ruby, Brian, Carolyn, Thomas, and Will were a constant source of pride. Becoming Great Nana to “Lovely Lana”, as she so affectionately called her, was a moment she especially cherished.
Dear sister to John (William) Griffin of Guam, Penny is predeceased by her brothers Paul, Joseph, Jack Griffin, and her sister Mary Crowley. She also leaves behind her sisters-in-law Susan McAleney and Mary Costello and her husband Larry, as well as many nieces and nephews who knew her as a fun-loving and generous aunt.
Those who knew Penny will remember her for her laughter, kindness, and genuine love for others. She had a rare ability to make even ordinary moments feel special. Hours of baking, singing, and dancing with all her children and grandchildren brought her the most joy. Her Sunday roast beef dinners became a weekly tradition, where all were invited and no one ever left hungry.
Although she worked at many jobs over the years, Penny found her calling as an activities director at Oceanside Nursing Home and later at Marina Bay Nursing Care Facility. She brought the same devotion and heart to her work as she did to her family, lifting spirits, creating joy, and making sure no one ever felt forgotten or alone.
Penny loved her Barry’s tea, a good crossword puzzle, or getting lost in a book at her kitchen table. But more than anything, she loved people, passiontately, selflessly, and with a warmth that will never be forgotten.
Penny’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and open arms. She made the world better simply by being in it, and her absence leaves an ache that will never fully fade. She will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
