Arlene Boland

Boland, Arlene M. lifelong resident of Medford, passed away peacefully March 11, 2024. She was 88.

Born in Medford April 13, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Rose (Smith) Boland.

Arlene was happiest when she was being productive and at work.  She held many positions over her long and dedicated career.  Most notably, she was an administrative assistant at GTE/Verizon for over 35 years.  She also worked as a unit secretary at both Whidden Memorial Hospital and Cambridge Health Alliance for many years.  Arlene was an animal lover, which showed in her devotion to her beloved dog, Broker, as well as her cats, Cassie and Ginger in later years.  Her hobbies included heading to the Medford Senior Center, reading the Boston Globe daily and could often be found catching up on her magazines at the Medford Public Library.  She enjoyed walking the neighborhood for exercise, sitting on her front porch watching over Linwood Street and chatting with anyone who passed by.

Loving sister to Virginia Chipman of Milton, Rosemary Phalen and her husband Jim of Duxbury, and the late Patricia Dean and her husband William of Medford. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A private remembrance will be held on Saturday, April 13th from 10 AM – 12 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). In lieu of flowers, donations in Arlene’s name may be made to Malden Catholic School for Girls, 99 Crystal St, Malden, MA 02148.
