Barbara Anne (Chase) McCusker

Barbara Anne (nee Chase) McCusker, of Weymouth, formerly of Quincy, May 1, 2025, died peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by her family.

Predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years Kevin McCusker; survived by her sister Elizabeth Chase of Weymouth; her sister Mary Ellen McCourt and husband Bernard (Skip) of Hingham; her daughter Kate Krumsiek and husband Michael of Cohasset; her son Patrick McCusker and wife Ann of Cohasset; cherished “Nini” to her grandchildren Charlie (fiancée Deirdre Kennedy), James and Kevin Krumsiek; and Ellie and Connor McCusker. Also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Barbara was raised on Hyde St. in Quincy and attended Archbishop Williams High School, finishing in 1961. She then graduated from Quincy Nursing School and spent her long career as an RN at Carney Hospital in Dorchester. Her passion for nursing and her cheerful demeanor were integral in the care of her patients and the deep and enduring friendships she made while there.

In 1968, she married the love of her life, Kevin. They settled in Weymouth, where they raised their two children, Kate and Pat. Barbara enjoyed gardening and transformed the original patch of poison ivy in the backyard into a welcoming sanctuary of herb gardens, blooming flowers and gorgeous greenery. The yard served as a venue for many special gatherings for family and friends, most notably the annual Labor Day Party. Her lifelong passion for nature lead her to pursue her official florist license, which she used to create beautiful arrangements for celebrations and charitable donations, with a special emphasis on Carney Hospital’s many fundraisers.

Barbara enjoyed traveling, particularly camping at Hermit Island in Maine and spending time with her sisters and cousins in Gilford, NH. Her cross-country trip with her best friend and cousin, Dottie, was one of the highlights of her life. Family was the core of her being as she never missed an excuse to celebrate both the small and large events of life.

Barbara’s role as Nini extended far beyond her own beloved grandchildren – nieces, nephews, cousins and friends all embraced the easy love she offered everyone. Her sweet nature and natural curiosity made her a favorite to many. After her cherished Kevin passed, Barbara moved to Penniman Hill in Hingham and despite her small size, made a huge impression on the staff and residents with her contagious smile, genuine affection, and her notorious sweet tooth! Our sorrow at Barbara’s loss is tempered only by our happiness that she will be reunited with Kevin.
