Barbara C. Lynch

Lynch, Barbara C. (MacDonnell) of Abington, passed away March 21, 2024. Barbara was raised in Roxbury, daughter of the late Angus J. and Jeanette (Dwyer) MacDonnell.

Beloved wife of the late Joseph T. Lynch. Loving mother of Carole Lynch and her partner Robert MacPherson of Braintree, Paula Lynch Ritchie and her husband William of Abington and Joseph Lynch and his wife Jean Thomas of Arlington. Nana to her four grandchildren Marybeth Torpey of Quincy, Joseph Ritchie and his partner Alexa Cushing of East Bridgewater, Brooke Cashman and her husband Chris of Arizona, and Samantha Lynch of Groveland. She is also survived by her longtime friend of over 60 years Peggy O’Connor and recent close and dear friend Martha Hannifan. Preceded by her siblings; Marjorie Brennan, Sr. Mary Grace MacDonnell, O.S.F. Sr. Paula Marie MacDonnell, O.S.F., Jean Costello and Fred MacDonnell.

Barbara graduated from Holy Trinity High School and had a career in banking for many years. She was at the Granite Cooperative Bank as Vice President; then finished her career as Mortgage officer at Weymouth Cooperative Bank. Barbara had been active in many organizations including The South Shore Chamber of Commerce, the beginning of Manet Community Health Clinic, and several Quincy business associations. Barbara was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America’s and the Sodality at Most Blessed Sacrament Church.

Barbara was proud of her Cape Breton heritage and the MacDonnell clan. In her retirement she enjoyed many cups of tea with family and friends and taught all her grandchildren how to make “a good cup of tea.” She was quick to laugh and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cheering them on in their many activities, hearing about their day, making puzzles, and playing games. She also enjoyed her weekly Mahjong games with “the girls”. Barbara was an avid fan of all Boston team sports and could be heard cheering her teams on from just about anywhere in the house.

We would like to thank the staff at Dwyer House for their never-ending kindness and support of mom. We are grateful to her “neighbor” Martha for her loving friendship. Also, to NVNA Hospice and South Shore Health Palliative Care for the care and support shown to Barbara and her family through a difficult time.
