Benjamin Louis Shapiro, 82, of Quincy, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026. He will be deeply missed for his booming laugh, his brilliant jokes and storytelling, his love of singing, and his genuine care for others.

Born in Queens, New York, Ben was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He graduated from Long Island University, went on to earn his Juris Doctor from New England Law, and later received his Master of Laws from New York University School of Law.

Ben enjoyed a long and distinguished legal career. He lived in Washington, D.C., for many years while working for the federal government, including at the U.S. Department of Justice. During his time in Washington, he volunteered to support the creation and dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, a project of which he remained immensely proud. He later relocated to Boston, where he worked for the Massachusetts District Attorney’s Office.

It was in Boston in 1991 that Ben met his wife, Kerry McGill, with whom he built a loving family. He cherished becoming a father later in life to his daughter, Charlotte, and remained a devoted husband and father until the end.

Ben spent his final years at the Brockton VA Medical Center. His family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Community Living Center Building, who provided him with exceptional care and comfort.

Ben was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Henrietta (Cohen) Shapiro; his brother-in-law, Erwin Wolf; his parents-in-law, Walter and Barbara (Golden) McGill; and his sister-in-law, Kathy McGill. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kerry McGill of Quincy, Massachusetts, and his daughter, Charlotte Shapiro of San Francisco, California; his sister, Karen Wolf, and her daughters, Melissa Williams and Lauren Petruzelli, along with their families of South Florida; his sister-in-law, Janet (McGill) Fuller and her husband, Milton, of East Hartford, Connecticut; his sister-in-law, Joyce (McGill) Crain of Boston, Massachusetts; his brother-in-law, Kevin McGill and his wife, Linda, of Manchester, Connecticut; his brother-in-law, Daniel McGill and his wife, Kristy, of Old Lyme, Connecticut; many cherished nieces and nephews; and his dear friend Mark White of Newton, Massachusetts.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 31, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, 809 Main Street, South Weymouth, Massachusetts 02190.
