Carol Carnes Dwyer

Carol Carnes Dwyer of Hingham MA, passed away on Thursday September 11, 2025. She was 89.

She was born to Margaret (Osborn) and E. Vincent Carnes. She grew up in Hingham Centre and attended the Centre School. She met her husband of 67 years in their freshman year at Archbishop Williams High School, where they were members of the first graduating class of 1953. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree at The College of New Rochelle in NY and then worked as a Social Worker in NYC until starting her family. While her children were still young, she started taking classes and went back to work, eventually earning a master’s degree. She worked for the Hingham Public Schools for over 25 years first in Special Education then as a Guidance Counselor. She cared deeply about her students and was dedicated to helping them achieve their goals.

Carol was an active member of St. Paul's Church where she had many friends and celebrations. She and her husband were great cooks and loved to entertain. There was dinner every Sunday for anyone who happened to be home or visiting and regular parties with family, neighbors and friends, both new and old. The Fourth of July party and Christmas Eve gatherings are two events that many look forward to, traditions her family will continue. As a gift for their 50th wedding anniversary her children began organizing annual trips to places near and far where the whole family could be together, time spent making memories. For fun she loved going to yard sales and finding 'treasures', pictures for a blank wall, furniture for a dorm room, toys for grandchildren, items that make a home interesting - you could count on her for whatever you needed. Going on an outing would invariably involve stopping for coffee, ice cream or both. Her kind heart, and genuine interest in whatever you were doing endeared her to everyone she interacted with.

She is survived by her husband Raymond R. Dwyer, her four children Terry Hurley and her husband, Steve, Rick Dwyer and his wife, Barbie, Marcy Lamlein and Mary Chapin, and her husband Jack, all of Hingham. Cherished grandmother of Henri Dwyer (Zoe), Jenna Boccard (Alex), Vincent Hurley (Tori), Rebecca Daniels (Sam), Kayla Collins, Evan Lamlein, Erika Chapin, Raymond Lamlein, Samantha Chapin and Hadley Dwyer. She was a great-grandmother to Margaux, Milo and Ophelia as well as a special Grammy to Jazmyn, Zac, Ali and Harley. She is also survived by her two brothers, William Carnes and his wife Barbara and Gerry Carnes and his wife Mary Ann as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
