Carol May
Dykeman
November 9, 1942 – March 24, 2026
Carol May Dykeman (Soule), 83, of Hanson, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, surrounded by the loving presence of her children, grandchildren, and friends.
Born on November 9, 1942, in South Weymouth, to the late Charles and Abigail Soule of Boston, MA. Carol spent her early years in Quincy before moving to South Weymouth to raise her family and building a life defined by compassion, generosity, humor, and unwavering dedication to others. Fittingly, she was cared for in her final days at South Shore Health, the same hospital she was born in and was later employed by as a nurse.
In her early thirties, as a resident of South Weymouth she took advantage of a town program and attended Quincy Junior College where she received her degree as Licensed Practical Nurse. In her late forties Carol went back to school and attained her degree as a Registered Nurse. A true caregiver at heart, Carol devoted her professional career to nursing. She served her community at Braintree Hospital, South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, managed a nursing home in Rockland, and concluded her career with the South Shore Visiting Nurse Association. Her work reflected the way she lived her life—always ensuring those around her were cared for, felt loved, heard, and special.
In mid-life, Carol was blessed to find the love of her life, the late Charles “Chuck” Dykeman, retired Navy Captain. Together, they shared twenty years filled with travel and cherished family time between Boston and San Diego.
Carol was a devoted mother to John Muha and his wife Jackie of Hanson; Stacey Fernandes of Cambridge; and Chris Muha and his wife Deann of Scituate. She was also a loving stepmother to Deirdre Lemire of California, and Stephen Dykeman and his wife Beth of California. Carol was especially proud of her twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply. She is also survived by her sister, Susan Martin of Florida, and was predeceased by her brother, Charles J Soul and his wife Barbara of Hanson, and her sister, Jo-Ann Herne and her husband Dana of Florida along with numerous nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.
A celebration of life will be held later this spring for family and friends who would like to honor and celebrate Carol.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to South Shore Health in South Weymouth, Massachusetts, in gratitude for the compassionate care provided to Carol in her final days.
