Carol M. Ordway, a cherished member of the Quincy community and an inspiring force to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, in Boston, MA, at the age of 76. Born on October 2, 1949, in Quincy, MA, Carol was the beloved daughter of the late Walter H. Ordway and Catherine G. Ordway.
A proud Bostonian and lifelong resident of Quincy, Carol knew every nook and cranny of the South Shore and Greater Boston area. She embodied the spirit of a quintessential child of the 60s, embracing independence, creativity, and her oft-spoken slogan: "Peace, Love, and Harmony." She had an astute and penetrating mind, characterized by an encyclopedic knowledge that captivated those around her. Carol's passion for enlightened discussions and the pursuit of wisdom made her a cherished conversationalist and a source of inspiration to many.
An ardent lover and supporter of the arts, Carol found joy in various cultural pursuits. Whether attending museums, theaters, or music concerts, or immersing herself in literature and architecture, she reveled in the beauty of artistic expression. Her appreciation for live performances was particularly enriched by her enjoyment of classic rock, blues, and the spirited shows of her nephew Kevin’s band.
In addition to her artistic leanings, Carol was a dedicated fan of tennis and women's basketball, often cheering passionately for her favorite teams. She cherished the fine moments spent with loved ones, sharing laughter over good meals, indulging in a fine bottle of red wine, and enjoying the beauty of the beach at the NUT in Wollaston, Cape Cod, and Martha's Vineyard.
Professionally, Carol earned her BS from Northeastern University and enjoyed a fulfilling career as a Systems Analyst at John Hancock for many years before her well-deserved retirement. Her work ethic mirrored her character: amazing, sweet, intelligent, caring, and generous. She gave so much and asked for so little in return, always striving to spread joy and raise the comfort and awareness of those around her.
Carol is survived by her devoted nephews, Kevin J. Ordway of Walpole and Christopher P. Ordway of Taunton; her sister-in-law, Linda Ordway of Plymouth; her great-nephews, Liam J. Ordway and Travis D. Ordway; niece-in-law, Meghan Hayward; and many cousins and close friends who will greatly miss her presence.
Preceding her in death were her late brother, Donald W. Ordway, and her beloved parents, Catherine and Walter Ordway.
As we remember Carol M. Ordway, we celebrate a life rich in experiences, generosity, and love. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those she touched throughout her life.
