Carol Valentine, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, in Hingham, Massachusetts, at the age of 76. Born on December 28, 1948, in Newton, Massachusetts, Carol was a beacon of kindness and dedication throughout her life.
Carol's professional journey was marked by her unwavering commitment to helping others. She served as a social worker at the Department of Children and Families and later as a probation officer at the Norfolk County Family and Probate Court. After her retirement, she opened her heart and home as an emergency foster parent to those in need. Her compassion and empathy left a lasting impact on the lives she touched.
An educated and lifelong learner, Carol graduated from Wellesley High School before attending Endicott College and ultimately earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Framingham State. Her passion for learning translated into a love for reading, and she was an avid participant in her book club, finding joy in the pages of every story.
Gardening and the beauty of nature were among Carol's greatest pleasures. She cherished long nature walks and was deeply committed to protecting the environment. This love for the earth extended beyond her personal pursuits; she actively worked with Hingham Wind, advocating for windmills in her town, and contributed to the South Shore Quests by creating numerous quests that engaged her community.
Carol was deeply involved with Old Ship Church in Hingham, where she was a supportive member of The Gathering women’s group. Her connection with the church provided her with a strong sense of community and fellowship.
Family was of utmost importance to Carol. She is survived by her loving children, Sara V. Jones of Franklin, MA, and Nathan M. White of Everett, MA, as well as her cherished grandchildren, Matthew Madden, Allison Madden, Isabella White, Lukas White, and Dominick White. Carol also held a special place in her heart for her dearest friends Diane Mahoney & James Kivlan-Felt and their families, as they shared a unique and meaningful relationship. She will also be remembered by William White Jr.
Carol is predeceased by her parents, Allard and Ruth Valentine, and her long-time friend, Walter Norton Sr., whose absence will be felt deeply by those who knew them.
Services to honor Carol's life will be held at Old Ship Church in Hingham, MA, on a date to be announced. Though she may no longer walk among us, her legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to the welfare of others will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
