Carol Anne Winterson, of Weymouth, passed away unexpectedly at her home, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. She was 76.

Carol was born in Boston on May 1, 1949, and was the daughter of the late John Joseph and Eleanor (McGrath) Winterson. She was raised in Quincy and attended local schools.

Carol lived a life defined by resilience, creativity, and deep devotion to her family. She had an artist’s eye and a dreamer’s spirit. A talented photographer, she found beauty in everything she captured; still-lifes, sweeping landscapes, candid portraits, and quiet moments in public spaces.

She also had a special love for birds, especially canaries and other song birds. She found joy in listening to their songs, and watching them from her window.

Carol was fiercely determined. She was a proud Taurus who embodied tenacity and insight. She was known for her sense of humor, her singular personality, and sharp mind. Carol was known for being as “smart as a whip!”

Carol was, above all, a devoted and loving mother who poured her heart into creating a magical childhood for her children. Birthdays were grand celebrations, Christmas mornings were filled with mountains of gifts and glowing festive lights, and Halloween brought trick or treating, homemade costumes, and imaginative scavenger hunts complete with poems she lovingly crafted. Carol had a gift for making celebrations feel special, and she knew how to turn any gathering into a joyful, unforgettable party.

Carol found comfort and happiness in music and simple pleasures. She loved listening to Celine Dion and Earth, Wind & Fire. She also enjoyed unwinding with her favorite shows, especially X-Files and Married with Children. She loved comedies, often saying “Get some good food, and put a comedy on!”

In her mid-life, she discovered a love of walking and spent countless hours finding peace and connecting with nature on her walks.

Though Carol did experience some medical challenges during her life, she carried on with remarkable strength, demonstrating courage and resilience that defined her life as much as her joy did.

She will be remembered as a spirited woman who loved her children deeply, and whose strength carried her through life’s most difficult challenges. Her legacy lives on in the memories she created, the love she gave, and the family she cherished.

Carol was the devoted mother of Susannah A. Baron and her husband Michael of Whitman and Lucas B. Nickerson and his significant other Victoria Hynes of Weymouth. She was the dear sister of Mary Beth Abbondandolo and her husband Nick of Brockton. Carol is predeceased by her siblings, Mark Winterson, Susan Triller, and Adele King. She was a cherished aunt of Matthew, Leah, Heather, the late Carolyn, Chris, Nicky, and Gina. She is also survived by many loving grandnieces, grandnephews, extended family members, and her former husband, Bruce Nickerson of Weymouth.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Route 18, opposite South Shore Hospital).
