Carolyn Habelt

Carolyn A.(Berchtold) Habelt of Weymouth, age 89, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Carol (as she was known by family and friends) was adored for her quick wit, lively personality and caring nature.

Carol was the daughter of the late Warren and Olga (Sartorio) Berchtold, and the beloved wife of the late Robert Habelt. Carol is survived by her son, Kurt Habelt of Weymouth, and her daughter Erika (Habelt) Smith and son-in-law Jerald Smith, and her granddaughters, Holly and Deanna Smith, all of Athol. She is also survived by her sister Jane (Berchtold) Marshall of Weymouth and her many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Diane (Berchtold) Thoms of Weymouth.

Carol is a 1953 graduate of the Girl’s Latin School in Boston, and earned an associates degree in business administration from Massasoit Community College. She was a co-founder of the Target Associates staffing agency in the 1980s. Carol also worked for many years as an administrative assistant for Braintree Public Schools.

Carol was a phenomenal gourmet cook and gracious hostess and enjoyed entertaining family and friends at her home over the years. She had a special fondness for cats and cherished the many cats that she rescued and cared for during her lifetime. She enjoyed figure skating and boating in her earlier years, and excelled at fine-art photography in her later years as a member of the South Shore Camera Club. She was also a woman of deep faith and a weekly communicant of the Immaculate Conception church in Weymouth.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday 1/4/2026 from 2-6 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Monday 1/5/2026 prior to the Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, a  donation in Carolyn’s memory may be made to Alley Cat Allies or a charity of their choice.
