Catherine “Cookie” Gibson of Hull passed away on August 27, 2025 surrounded by her family at the age of 90.
Born and raised in the West End, Cookie spent her childhood strolling Charles Street and exploring the esplanade and Charles River. She adored her neighborhood and the lifelong friendships she formed growing up there. After graduating from Brighton High School, she met the love of her life, Paul Gibson. They married in 1954 and started their family in St. Louis. A few years later, Cookie and Paul returned to Dorchester to raise their seven children. During their time on Ashmont Street, they welcomed the neighborhood into their home, fostering friendships that lasted their entire lives. Cookie also spent time working in the Boston School System as a teacher’s aide. In 1978, they purchased a home on Nantasket Beach that would become the center of their family and friends’ lives for generations to come. In 1984, Cookie and Paul co-founded their company Gibson Roofs, Inc., which has been going strong for over 40 years. Throughout their life, they traveled the world with friends and spent their winters at their home in Melbourne Beach, Florida.
Cookie devoted her life to her family and friends. Her happiest times were opening up her home to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all of their many friends, always maintaining an open door policy and the-more-the-merrier attitude. Cookie was incredibly warm, welcoming, and social, and she loved nothing more than sitting around her red table chatting with her loved ones. Her strength, curiosity, and immense generosity meant that everyone found a friend in her. She is already greatly missed.
Cookie was the beloved wife of the late Paul Gibson and a devoted mother to her children, Kevin Gibson and his wife Brigitte of Hull, Karen Gibson of Hull, Bob Gibson and his wife Ellen of Sandwich, Mike Gibson of Hanover, Paula Gibson of Cohasset, Chuck Gibson and his wife Maria of Hingham, and Beth Currie and her husband Steven of Hull. She was cherished by all of her grandchildren, including Kristina Lynch and her husband John, Holly Weaver, Paul Gibson and his wife Sarah, David Gibson and his partner Maddie, Hayley Gibson, Sarah Gibson, Al Gibson and his wife Caitlin, Alyssa Fisher and her husband Tyler, Cody Gibson and his wife Erin, Samantha Currie, and Sydney Currie. Cookie was an adoring sister of Richard Demas and the late Peter Demas and Donna Demas and loving aunt to Richie Demas, Lisa Dettmer, Peter Demas, and Mark Demas. Treasured by countless friends and a growing number of great-grandchildren, Cookie leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and generosity with all who knew her.
Loved ones are invited to greet the family on Thursday, September 11 from 12-4 PM at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home North Weymouth at 40 Sea Street followed by a funeral home service at 4 PM. A celebration of life will follow. Per Cookie’s wishes, the family asks that those attending the service wear bright colors—red was her favorite.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in loving memory of Cookie’s husband Paul.
