Catherine Evelyn (McDonald) Spear, of Weymouth, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. She was 83.

Catherine was born in Boston on June 12, 1943, and was the daughter of the late John and Mary E. (McMaster) McDonald. She was raised in Roslindale and attended local schools.

Catherine had a great sense of humor and a personality that was unmistakably her own. She was funny, quick-witted, and famously sarcastic, a trait her family and friends knew well and undoubtedly loved about her.

Catherine enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She loved playing bingo and enjoyed trying her luck with scratch tickets She liked being out and about, doing things, and staying involved rather than sitting still.

Giving her time to others was also important to Catherine. She enjoyed volunteering and became an active part of her living community, working in their store, helping with events and contributing wherever she could. She enjoyed being around people and found fulfillment in being involved and making a difference in the community she called home.

Catherine was also a wonderful cook. Her children especially remember her meatloaf, which was a particular favorite, and holidays were made special with her traditional turkey dinners. She enjoyed good food, including Chinese food, and sharing meals with the people she loved.

Music was another source of enjoyment for Catherine. She had an appreciation for the classics, especially the music of Paul Anka, Frank Sinatra, the Rat Pack, and the oldies. Her favorite color was purple, a fitting reflection of the gentle and familiar things she enjoyed throughout her life.

Above all, Catherine will be remembered for the laughter she brought with her, her sarcastic sense of humor, her willingness to help, and her ability to stay involved and engaged with the people and community around her.

Catherine was the devoted mother of Lawrence "Larry" Spear Jr. of Hull, and his former spouse Jessica Travis of Brockton, Thomas "Tommy" Spear of Weymouth, Robert "Bobby" Spear and his wife Debra “Debbie” of Tennessee, and Michael Spear of Quincy. She was the loving grandmother of twelve and the loving great-grandmother of seven. Catherine was preceded in death by her siblings: Walter McDonald, James McDonald, John McDonald, and Mary Hoffer. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
