Christopher Cobb Fairchild

Christopher Cobb Fairchild, a longtime resident of Hull, MA, was born on June 16, 1963, and passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025. He was 61.

Chris was born in Omaha, NE, to Flora C. Fairchild (Cobb). He was fortunate to have two loving fathers, Bob Fairchild and Al Roper, both of whom deeply impacted his life. Most of Chris’s childhood was spent in San Jose, CA, with his two younger brothers, Bobby and Rahn, and his older sister, Kathleen. Sports completely dominated Chris’s life. Primarily playing football and basketball, he was an elite athlete excelling in any sport he played. He was a thrill and joy to watch; he was that good. Chris was also a stellar student who attended Bellarmine, a Catholic college preparatory high school in San Jose. While in high school, Chris’s family migrated to the East Coast when Al retired from the military, marking the transition to civilian life. Chris then successfully graduated from Holy Cross High School in New Jersey.

Chris’s athleticism and intense focus on education earned him multiple academic and athletic scholarships. He ultimately chose a basketball scholarship at the University of Vermont, where he played for the Catamounts while majoring in business. This is also where he met his life partner, Melinda Powell, also a business major. After college, they moved to Massachusetts, where Chris worked in the financial industry at Mass Financial Services and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Chris's love for sports was a defining aspect of his life. He was an elite athlete, excelling in football and basketball (even track and field), and his love for sports never waned. He was also an avid reader and talented writer, with a special interest in screenplays. His diverse interests and passions made him a well-rounded and very engaging individual.

Chris's dedication extended beyond his academic and athletic pursuits. He was a committed partner of over 40 years to Melinda, a loving brother to Kathleen, Bobby, and Rahn, and an uncle to many nieces and nephews – Matthew, Laura, Sydney, Glorious, Zuri, and Rahn Jr. His favorite “cuz” (cousin), Eric Norris, also held a very special place in his heart.

Relatives and friends are invited to leave a condolence message on Chris’s obituary page. Instead of flowers, anyone wishing to make a donation in memory of Chris can do so to the American Lyme Disease Foundation.
