Chuck Tuplin of Hull passed away suddenly on June 25, 2026 at the age of 66.
Born in Boston, Chuck was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Campbell) Tuplin. He grew up in Hull, raised his family in Weymouth, and recently retired in one of his favorite places, his childhood home in Hull. He was a proud registered First Nations member of the Lennox Island Mi’kmaq Band of Prince Edward Island, Canada.
Chuck was a graduate of Newman Preparatory. He attended Dalhousie University, Class of 1983, where he met and wowed his future wife, Heike, with his improv skills during theater class. He also earned his master’s degree from Ohio University in 1984. Chuck devoted 37 years of his career to Vinfen, retiring as the Director of Service. Through his work, Chuck was responsible for expanding community health services across the Boston metro area and the South Coast, leaving a meaningful impact on countless individuals and families.
Sports were a lifelong passion for Chuck. He was very proud of his years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Sherbrooke Beavers and his team’s advancement to the Memorial Cup championship in 1977. Chuck loved following the Boston Bruins and proudly played a rookie pre-season game with them in 1979 during his tryout with the team. His love of the game continued through the years as a coach for the Boston Junior Terriers and Weymouth Youth Hockey. He instilled this athletic enthusiasm in his sons, and one of his greatest joys was coaching all three of them on the Duncan MacKellar Little League team. His love of baseball continued as a member of Freekin’ League Fantasy Baseball, where he enjoyed welcoming newcomers, especially if it meant an opportunity to offload his unofficial uniform, the “Fantasy Loser” T-shirt. For Chuck, sports were never about winning, they were about the camaraderie and fellowship that they foster.
Chuck also had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, developed during time spent in Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton, and Great Esker Park. He enjoyed gardening, boating, fishing, and most of all, lobstering. He inadvertently contributed more than one fishing boat to the sandy sea floor of Gunrock Beach, where they sit as salty memorials to his determination and love of the ocean. Chuck had a special skill of finding value where others might not think to look, and he could often be found at a local garage sale, scouring Facebook Marketplace, or stopping on the side of the road to inspect a “diamond in the rough.” Through all these passions, Chuck brought warmth, joy, and a lot of humor to those around him.
Above all else, Chuck loved his family and friends. He was deeply loved in return, and his presence will be missed more than words can express.
He was the beloved husband of Heike Mertens-Tuplin for 43 years.
Loving father of Michael (Jen) Tuplin, Corey (Tori) Tuplin, and Trevor (Mitchell) Tuplin. Brother of Leslie Tuplin and Joseph Tuplin. Cherished Gramps to Noriana Tuplin as well as soon-to-arrive Baby Tuplin. Brother-in-law of Joyce (Gary) Helinsky and Mark (Tracy) Mertens. Son-in-law of Ewald Mertens and Loni Neiser. Uncle of Kyler, Ryan, Jared, and Braden. Dear friend of Kenny, Pam, and the entire Johnston family. He is also survived by his loving canine helper, Sadie.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, July 16th from 2:30 PM-5:30 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, South Weymouth at 809 Main Street (Route 18, opposite South Shore Hospital), followed by his brief funeral service at 5:30 PM. A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held immediately afterward at Weathervane on Clubhouse Drive in Weymouth.
In lieu of flowers we ask you to consider making a donation to the ARC of the South Shore.
