Claire Louise Rochefort

Rochefort, Claire Louise (nee Sabadini) of Hingham, died peacefully at The Rose Court Continuing Care Facility on September 28, 2023. 

Claire was born on July 6, 1928 in Jamaica Plain, the eldest of six children of the late Louis F. Sabadini and Mary E. (Willett) Sabadini. She was pre-deceased by her husband Arthur, sister Ruth A. Lance and brother Charles G. Sabadini. Claire’s brother Louis F. Sabadini, Jr. passed away several hours later on the same day as Claire. She is survived by her sister Marie E. McKenzie-Frederiksen of Hingham and brother Lawrence J Sabadini and his wife Carol of Norwood. She leaves her many beloved and loving nieces, nephews, godchildren and great nieces and nephews.

Upon her graduation from Jamaica Plain High School in 1945 Claire was employed by the Massachusetts Horticultural Society of Boston. Among her various duties there, she assisted in the planning of the Society’s many flower shows. After fourteen years years at Horticultural, Claire moved on to a position at Goodspeed’s Antiquarian Book, Autograph and Rare Print Shop on Beacon Hill. There she became a knowledgeable historian specializing in documents and historical signatures. She found her niche, she was a well known and respected autograph expert. She truly enjoyed her many years at Goodspeeds.

In 1950 Claire married Arthur H Rochefort, also of Jamaica Plain, they moved to North Quincy where they resided for 35 years. They then moved to Weymouth residing there until Claire moved to Linden Ponds after her husband death.

Claire participated in a variety of social organizations such as the Wollaston Yacht Club, Allen Harbor Yacht Club, Wollaston Women’s Junior Club and Wollaston Ski Club.

During retirement Claire enjoyed her summers in Dennisport and worked with her husband as tour guides for historical tours of Boston and the environs and Cape Cod. She was a volunteer for many years at Mass General Hospital in Boston.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Resurrection Catholic Church in Hingham on Wednesday October 11th at 11 AM. The family will receive visitors at the church from 10:30 AM to 11 AM prior to the Mass. Burial at Bourne National Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Claire’s memory may be made to the Norwell Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061 or the New England Center For Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.
