Clare (Golden) Druther of Weymouth, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025.
Born and raised in North Quincy, Clare was the youngest of six children. She often joked that with five older brothers she had no choice but to learn to be tough at an early age. They were tightly knit siblings who remained close throughout their lives. Her brothers George, Jack and Gene predeceased her. Her brothers Bob and Gerard were by her side offering comfort and support until her passing.
Clare was highly competitive in everything she did, whether participating in sports or playing poker. As a teen, she was a star softball player for North Quincy High School. As an adult, she skied the black diamond slopes of New England into her fifties until she injured her knee on an icy “last run of the day.” Even as a grandmother, Clare couldn’t resist racing to the base to try to beat her grandchildren at whiffleball.
Clare’s competitive nature informed her parenting. She encouraged her children, Linda, Tom and Kristin to take part in sports and other activities. She saw this as a way to help them gain confidence and ultimately set them up for success. Whether it was playing guitar, playing hockey or competing in Tae Kwon Do, Clare was filled with pride at her children’s accomplishments and was always eager to share stories of their achievements. Clare loved holidays and always went above and beyond to make them special for her family.
Clare also had a second family, affectionately known as “the card group.” These lovely women met as young mothers in North Quincy and bonded over the shared challenges of early parenting. While many members of this group ultimately moved from North Quincy, Clare included, they never left each other. The card group has been playing cards, laughing together and supporting each other for over fifty years – they will all miss her dearly. After the death of her husband three years ago, Clare moved to a new community at Fairing Way in Weymouth where she made numerous friends. Clare thoroughly enjoyed her time there especially the impromptu gatherings at the end of her hall.
Clare was always a hard worker and when she unexpectedly became a single mother, she initially supported her family working as a waitress. Through determination and perseverance, she improved her job skills and went on to work at both Norwell and Duxbury Town Halls. She would later work as a handicapped bus driver and paraprofessional for children with special needs in the Abington public school system.
Clare’s husband of twenty-nine years, Michael Druther, predeceased her.
Clare will be missed by many including her daughter Linda Cummings and her husband Peter, of Andover, son Thomas Nutting and his wife Kristen, of Plymouth, daughter Kristin Houston, of Plymouth, stepdaughter Carole Nagobads and her partner Randy, of Carver and stepson Michael Druther of Weymouth, as well as ten grandchildren, Mikala Houston, Ben Nutting, Matthew Cummings, Ryan Nagobads, Abigale Nutting, Olivia Cummings, Nattallia Druther, Christopher, Colleen and Bobby Cummings and two great-grandchildren Logan and Dylan Cummings. Her many nieces and nephews also mourn her passing.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital).
Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 AM followed by her burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Weymouth.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Clare may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
