Cynthia Joyce Murphy, beloved wife, mother, Nana, sister, and friend, passed away on August 9, 2026, in Hingham, Massachusetts, just days before her 74th birthday. Born on August 12, 1952, in Quincy, Massachusetts, Cynthia was a lifelong resident of the South Shore. She grew up in the close-knit town of Hull, as one of ten siblings, and carried the lessons of family, resilience, and love throughout her life.
In 1972, Cynthia married Robert “Murph” Murphy, beginning a partnership filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support that spanned over fifty remarkable years. Together, they raised their children, Keri and Rob, teaching them the importance of loyalty, humor, and perseverance. As a mother, Cynthia was present in every sense—watching Rob play basketball through high school and college, sharing her kitchen and her heart with her family, and ensuring that her home was always filled with warmth and joy.
Her greatest pride and joy, however, was being "Nana" to her three grandchildren: Kilee, Keira, and Oliver. Cynthia’s devotion as a grandmother knew no bounds. She rarely missed a soccer game, basketball match, dance recital, or school event, no matter the circumstance. Even during her battle with cancer, when her health made it difficult, her determination to be present for her grandchildren never wavered. Her boundless affection, constant support, and gentle humor shaped lasting memories and set an inspiring example for her family.
Cynthia’s career as a florist was more than a vocation; it was a passion. She had a true gift with flowers, both in the artistry of arranging them and in her appreciation for their beauty. Her joys extended into her kitchen, where she became famous for her excellent cooking and cheerful family gatherings.
Known for her great sense of humor—sharp, witty, and just a touch irreverent—Cynthia brightened every room she entered. She was straightforward and strong, never afraid to speak her mind, yet always with love at the core. Her stubborn, spirited nature endeared her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Cynthia cherished traveling with family and friends, especially to Disney, creating magical memories on countless trips over the years. Summers spent on the beaches of Hull, surrounded by the laughter of loved ones and the company of her cherished dogs, were among her happiest times.
Cynthia is survived by her devoted husband, Robert “Bob” Murphy; her daughter, Keri Hancock; her son, Rob Murphy and his wife Andrea; her treasured grandchildren, Kilee Hancock, Keira Hancock, and Oliver Murphy; her loving siblings, Gail Walsh, David Walsh, Beverly Walsh, William Walsh and his wife Barbie, and Rick Walsh and his wife Linda. She also leaves behind her sisters- and brothers-in-law Julie Walsh, Jack Belisle, and Kenny Murphy and his wife Roberta, as well as many nieces, nephews, and a countless number of dear friends whose lives she touched with her kindness and humor.
She was predeceased by her parents, Edythe and William P. Walsh; her siblings Paul Walsh, Andrea Cassie, Priscilla Walsh, and Sharon Belisle.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation hours on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street, Hingham, MA. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Hull Village Cemetery, Duck Lane, Hull, MA.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Pat Roche Hospice House.
Cynthia Joyce Murphy’s legacy will live on in the laughter, love, and cherished memories she created. She will be deeply missed by all who were privileged to know her, but her spirit will always be present in the hearts of her family and friends.
