David E. Cohen, 72, of Braintree, Massachusetts passed away unexpectedly on May 16th, 2026, with loving family at his side.

David was born on July 7th, 1953, in Boston Massachusetts, to Sidney Cohen and Jeanette Shaller.

David attended Newton South High School, after which he earned his Bachelors of Science in Business from the University of Pennsylvania – Wharton School of Finance. Following that, he went on to obtain a Master's in business from Bentley University. David was dedicated to his career as managing Partner of Cohen-Havian, a firm established by his father in 1943. During this time he was elected as a “who’s-who” in finance and for a period of ten years hosted a radio show discussing a variety of business and financial topics.

In 1989, David married Mary Fay; the two being inseparable. Partners at work, home, in travel and in co-raising seven children together. While they occasionally traveled to tropical locations, they spent the greatest amount of time together at their home in Tucson Arizona.

David was a kind, generous, compassionate mainstay. He was humorous, quirky, and loving. He was also a quiet confidant and advisor.

He is survived by his wife Mary Fay of Braintree, his children Jeremy and wife, Courtney Cohen of Dartmouth, MA; Erin Cohen and husband, Mike Roy of Smithfield, RI; Eric Petitti and wife, Zhe Gu of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Mark and wife, Patty Petitti of Braintree, MA; Lisa Petitti of Braintree, MA; Andrew Petitti and wife Kathy Castillo; Jessica and husband, Cody Oliva of Braintree, MA. David and Mary enjoyed the company of fifteen grand-children.

A wake and a service will be held at Keohane Funeral Home, Quincy on May 31, 2026, from 2-4 pm followed by a celebration of life ceremony from 4-5. In lieu of flowers please donate to The American Heart Association and The Diabetes Foundation.
