David Lowell Detwiler, 83, of Quincy, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Greenford, Ohio, David graduated from Greenford High School before moving to Quincy, Massachusetts to attend Eastern Nazarene College. There, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and was a proud member of the A Cappella Choir and Madrigal Singers, sharing his deep love of music through performance and fellowship.
David’s passion for music was the soundtrack of his life. A gifted pianist, organist, and vocalist, he was a longtime church soloist and a devoted participant in the Eastern Nazarene College Choral Union’s annual performance of Handel’s Messiah. His rich baritone voice and deep faith made him a cherished part of his church community.
Beyond music, David loved the simplicity and beauty of country life. He was an avid collector of John Deere memorabilia, a car enthusiast, a faithful sudoku solver, and a loyal fan of Boston sports teams. Whether hosting football parties or spending time with loved ones, David was most content surrounded by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus and Estella Detwiler; his brothers Robert, Donald, Kenneth, Rollin, and John; and his sister Lucille Witmer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Nancy Baird Detwiler; his daughters Julie (Derek) Flood of Abington and Amy (Michael) Manganaro of Foxboro; and his grandson Evan Detwiler and partner Amanda Wasser of Quincy. He is also survived by his brothers Ellis (Caroline) and Richard, sisters Lorene Ruby and Janice (James) Ziegler, as well as many treasured nieces and nephews.
