David P. Gately of Hingham, MA, age 84, passed away on March 20, 2026.
He was the son of the late Thomas F. Gately Sr. and Ethel (Minard) Gately.
David was brought up in Dorchester, Meeting House Hill, and attended Dorchester School & graduated from Dorchester High School in 1959 (Black & Red). He moved to the Lower Mills section of Dorchester for seven years before moving to Hingham, MA in 1977 where he lived there until his passing.
David proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1960-1966 out of Victory Road Armory.
He belonged to many organizations- Massachusetts Police Association and Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association to name a few. His greatest enjoyment was working around his house and yard and spending time with his family. One of his most cherished memories was a once in a lifetime trip to Ireland in 2009 with his niece and her family. David worked as a member of the Amtrak Police Department out of South Station, retiring after 32 years of service.
David is predeceased by his siblings, Thomas F. Gately Jr., Judith A. Gately and M. Joan Canney. David is survived by his sister Donna E. Andrews of Carver, MA. Dear uncle to Paula M. Flanagan and her husband James, Kelly Andrew-Coutu and her husband James, Annmarie Caccialini, and beloved grandniece, Margaret Mary Flanagan.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visitation on Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 4-6 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A memorial mass and burial for David will be held at a later date.
