Mitchell, David E. “Pops” of Halifax, originally Quincy, died August 24, 2025.
David attended Dorchester High School and graduated from Boston University with a degree in aeronautical science. He worked as an engineer for Avco Textron and developed and tested the heat shield for the Apollo space capsule. He was a proud Army veteran stationed in Okinawa, Japan during World World II. He adored his family and was known as the best dad and “Pops”. His faith was important to him and he enjoyed bowling, watching the Patriots and Red Sox, taking vacations to Las Vegas, the Caribbean, and Aruba, and to casinos. David was a wonderful and kind man who never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Beloved husband of the late Patricia “Patsy” Mitchell. Loving father of Deborah Ragosta and her husband Edward of RI, David B. Mitchell and his companion Elizabeth Norcross of MS, and Paul Mitchell and his wife Kelly of Halifax. Cherished brother of the late Mary “Marie” Sammarco and Eileen Mitchell. Devoted Pops to his grandchildren Chrissy and her husband Matt, Gregory and his wife Ashley, Brandon, Cole, and his great grandchildren Leigha, Ryan, Cameron, Benjamin, and Daniel. Loving uncle of Rosemary Sammarco and her companion Sharon Kling, Anthony Sammarco, and many other nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday 9/2/2025 from 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Wednesday 9/3/2025 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Old North Cemetery, Weymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of David may be made to Norwell Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061.
