Kamenides, Dorothy E. (Prata) of Weymouth, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on September 4, 2018 following a long struggle with congestive heart failure. Dotty grew up in Hyde Park and attended Girl’s Trade School. She was a talented seamstress and while employed by Filenes, she even worked on fine beading and alterations for the Kennedy inaugural ball gowns.
Beloved wife of 57 years to Milton Kamenides of Weymouth. Loving mother of William Kamenides and his wife Lisa of North Chelmsford, Janice Brown of Weymouth and her significant other Mark Pontes of Middleboro and Patricia Mycroft and her husband Thomas of South Weymouth. Dear sister of Robert Prata and his wife Diane of Scituate and Richard Prata and his wife Susan of East Weymouth. Cherished grandmother of 4 grandchildren; William P. Kamenides, Kristen M. Kamenides, Ashleigh E. Brown and Timothy C. Mycroft. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, godchildren and cousins.
Dotty and Milton met in 1957 when they both attended a mutual friend’s wedding. They were married four years later on May 28, 1961. They enjoyed traveling together frequenting their favorite destinations of Aruba, Las Vegas, Fort Myers and Naples, FL. They celebrated their 50th anniversary with a cruise to Alaska.
Dotty devoted her life to family. She was a full-time homemaker while raising her children and then later cared for her aging parents. While she always loved being a mother, she really LOVED being a “Nana” even more!
She had many hobbies including sewing, playing BINGO, card games and Scrabble, doing jigsaw puzzles, bowling, cooking and even jumping in as goalie during a neighborhood game of street hockey!
Dotty had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to tell a funny story, was friendly and welcoming to everyone and enjoyed a house full of company.
Our hearts are broken for what we have lost but full because of who we have known. She will be profoundly missed.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday, September 10th from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opposite South Shore Hospital).
