Dorothy Elizabeth “Dotty” Kirby of Quincy passed away from this life on Saturday, September 14, 2024, after a brief illness.
Dotty was known best as a lady of great love, faith and empathy, attributes she shared with all that crossed her path. She was 90 years old. Her loving husband, Gerald M. “Gerry” Kirby, who was an attorney, passed six and a half years ago after almost 60 years of marriage. Dotty and Gerry had six children. They lost their first child, Diane, shortly after childbirth and she was a devoted mother that raised their surviving children, Kevin Kirby of Cohasset, Sean Kirby and his husband Russell Beaulieu of Dracut, Timothy Kirby of Andover, New Jersey, Kerri Ryder and her husband Scott Ryder of Plymouth, and Maureen Kirby of Quincy.
To Dotty’s loving grandchildren she was known as “Nini.” They are Christian Ryder, and his wife Danielle, Devin Kirby, Zachary Kirby, Darby Ryder, Bryan Ryder, Natalie Kirby, Brenna Kirby, Kaitlyn Ryder and Sydney Kirby. Dotty also leaves three great grandchildren, Aubrielle, Flynn, and Liam Ryder.
Dotty grew up in Roslindale. She has one surviving sister, Elizabeth Walter. She graduated from Roslindale High School and began a career as a secretary and administrative assistant, working at a Boston Law firm, Blue Cross and Blue Shield and State Street Bank. However, most of her life’s work and accomplishment was as a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Dotty and Gerry moved to Wollaston in 1961, and she lived in the same home until her death. She was an active member of Saint Ann Parish of Wollaston, her children all attended St. Ann School. In later years, she spent a substantial amount of time in St. Petersburg, Florida, and made special relationships with a clutch of wonderful friends, the “Florida girls”
Dorothy Kirby will be missed sincerely by many friends and family but will always remain in our hearts.
