Dorothy Mary “Dottie” Silva of Quincy, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025. She was 79.
She was born in Boston to Dorothy (McBeth) and Woodrow Beswick and raised in the Neponset neighborhood of Boston. She attended Dorchester High and shortly after met Ralph Silva while spending time with friends in the Port. The two had an instant connection and soon after were married. They spent most of their 60 years in the Quincy and Dorchester area and snow birding in Myrtle beach.
After graduating high school, Dorothy worked at a nursing home for a short time before becoming a home health aide, which she did for over 40 years. Her compassion and care for her patients went above and beyond the call of duty. Dorothy had an innate desire to help and care for others. She was truly selfless.
In her spare time, she often traveled with Ralph, whether it was their winters in Myrtle Beach, trips to Hawaii or a cross-country road trip, they were always excited to explore new places together. When she was home, she always made sure Ralph was well fed. She was a talented baker and was renowned for her delicious Irish soda bread. Dorothy’s loving and doting nature made her easy to love and so difficult to forget. She will be truly missed by all who knew her, loved her and were cared for by her.
Beloved wife of 60 years to Ralph Silva of Quincy. Loving sister to Beverly Stevens of Weymouth and her late husband Edward, Theresa Beswick and her partner Patrick Deane of Dorchester, John Beswick and his wife Joann of Quincy, and Thomas Beswick and his wife Diane of Quincy. Sister-in-law to Judy Sherlock and her husband Tom. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents Dorothy (McBeth) and Woodrow Beswick, her siblings, Frederick Beswick, Winifred Beswick and her partner Warren Stewart, William Beswick and Joseph Beswick and his wife Deirdre, her sister-in-law Barbara Dawson and her husband Clifford, and her 3 German shepherds, Gypsy, Lonesome and Happy.
