Douglas Martin King

Douglas Martin King, of Weymouth, formerly of Quincy died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was 70.

Doug was born in Quincy on June 4, 1954, and was the son of the late Paul and Jenny (Foster) King. He was raised in Quincy, attended local schools and graduated from Quincy High School.

Doug began his career working on oil rigs before transitioning into the flooring business. He went on to become a skilled floor layer with the union and worked in floor sales for many years. Doug enjoyed working with people and always appreciated a good conversation, especially when it came to helping customers.

In his free time, Doug was an avid fan of baseball, hockey, and football. He loved watching games and keeping up with his favorite teams. He also had a deep interest in space and science, often reading books and watching documentaries to learn more. Doug enjoyed researching all kinds of topics—once something caught his interest, he liked to really understand it.

Doug loved being outdoors. He went for walks often, appreciated the quiet moments in nature, and enjoyed noticing the little things—blooming flowers, a clear night sky, or the change of seasons. He also enjoyed good food, whether it was a home-cooked meal or dining out at one of his favorite spots.

More than anything, Doug loved being a father. His daughter, Stephanie, meant the world to him, and he was proud to be her dad. In his eyes, she could do no wrong. He also cherished his role as a grandfather to Layla, and nothing made him happier than spending time with his family.

Doug will be remembered for his curiosity, his love of learning, and the way he made time for the things—and people—that mattered most to him.

Doug was the beloved husband of the late Denise Ann (Walsh) King. He was the devoted father of Stephanie Ann King and her spouse Ryan Murphy of Plymouth. Doug was the loving grandfather of Layla Murphy of Plymouth, and is also survived by ten of his twelve siblings, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Following cremation, Doug’s funeral services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Doug’s name to the charitable organization of one’s choice.
