Edward E. Engren, a lifelong resident of Quincy, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026. He was born in Quincy on November 23, 1938, and grew up in Quincy Point, the cherished oldest son of the late Charles and Madeline (Murphy) Engren.

Edward leaves behind a legacy defined by devotion to family, strong friendships, and a remarkable work ethic. Edward was the beloved husband, for sixty-two years, to the late Georgianna M. (Brundle) Engren, whom he lovingly called the love of his life. Together, they built a family life full of warmth, support, and treasured memories.

He was the devoted father of Debra A. (Engren) Daniels of Hingham, Charles E. Engren of Quincy, and Todd A. Engren of Quincy. His love for his children was evident in both word and deed, providing them not only with guidance but with unwavering encouragement throughout their lives.

Edward was a dedicated brother to Rita Doyle and the late John Doyle of Weymouth, the late Carol and Michael Hickey of Naples, FL, the late Charles Engren and his surviving wife, Dianne Engren of Bridgewater, and the late Leona and William Cullen of Quincy. His close relationships with his siblings were a cornerstone in his life.

A loving grandfather, Edward was preceded in death by his granddaughter Crystal A. Melanson. He is fondly remembered and survived by his grandchildren, CJ and Debbie Engren of El Paso, TX, Kelsey Engren of Quincy, Kiley Engren, Joseph Boddie of Quincy, Melanie Engren and Alex Whitehead of Melissa, TX, and Andrew Engren of Hingham. Edward’s legacy also extends to his great-grandchildren, Alicia Love and Austin Dupont of Norfolk, Ohio. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews, whose lives were enriched by his presence.

Edward’s professional life was spent serving his community and region. He worked at Duane’s Salvage in Quincy and later for Testa Corp in Boston, a civil construction and demolition contractor. His dedication and skill were evident on landmark projects such as Boston’s Central Artery/Tunnel (The Big Dig) and the demolition of the old Boston Garden. Colleagues and friends alike admired his work ethic and reliability.

Beyond his career, Edward’s true passion lay on the waters of Quincy Bay. He found peace and happiness out in his boat, fishing among the islands and sharing picnics with family and friends. For Edward, time spent on the water was sacred; it was where he felt most at ease. He enjoyed countless fishing trips with dear friends, including the late Joseph Marsden of Quincy and the late George Doyle of Quincy.

Edward also found joy in traveling and cruising with both family and friends. He shared many memorable adventures with the late Dorothy and Robert Sturgeon of Auburndale, FL, the late Leona and William Cullen of Quincy, the late Joseph Marsden and his surviving wife Rita Marsden, as well as close family friend Stephanie Flynn of Quincy.

He possessed incredible creativity, teaching himself the art of oil painting. Edward’s works, often inspired by the ocean and natural scenery he so loved, were gifted to family and friends as treasured keepsakes. Each painting bore not just his talent, but his affection for those dearest to him.

Edward touched the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His gentle spirit, kindness, and unwavering loyalty will be remembered always.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, August 20th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Quincy. A Memorial Service will be held at Keohane Funeral Home on Friday, August 21st at 10:00 AM, followed by burial at Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree.

Edward E. Engren’s legacy will endure, carried forward by all those he loved and inspired throughout a life truly well-lived.
