Edward J. O’Connor, 77, of Quincy, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2024 with his family by his side.
Edward “Ed” was the oldest of triplet boys, born in Boston on October 21, 1946 to the late Lawrence and Virginia (Barker) O’Connor. He graduated from Weymouth High School and went on to graduate from Northeastern University. He was a member of both schools’ championship track teams.
Ed is survived by his loving wife Judith A. Coletta of Quincy; brother Richard O’Connor and his wife Sharron of Benicia, CA; brother Lawrence O’Connor and his wife Denise of Hooksett N.H and his late sister Virginia Holland; sons Michael O’Connor of Attleboro, Ryan O’Connor of Providence, R.I., and Jerry Coletta of Brooklyn N.Y. Ed will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Ed worked many years as a computer programmer. He loved music and all the New England pro sports teams. He was a lifelong bowler and enjoyed playing with the Quincy Bald Eagles hockey team. He was a great supporter of the MA Special Olympics and coached his son Michael, who won many gold medals over the years.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Friday February 23rd 5-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A – Bicknell Square). A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Saturday February 24th prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Edward may be made to Norwell VNA and Hospice/Pat Roche Hospice Home, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061; or The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Research, 415 Crossways Park Dr. D, Woodbury, NY 11797; or Special Olympics Massachusetts, 512 Forest St, Marlborough, MA 01752.
