Mr. Edward M. Kennedy, of Weymouth, formerly of South Boston, passed away suddenly on June 11, 2024. He was 61. 

Ed was the Director of Security for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Corrections for many years. Prior to working for the DOC, Ed worked at various other agencies within the Commonwealth. He was also a former Housing Inspector for the City of Boston Inspectional Services Department. Ed enjoyed golf, gambling, disco music and a Seagrams 7 with coke. Ed was happiest surrounded by his family and all those who loved him. He will be deeply missed by his sense of humor, laughter, and just his presence around his many family and friends. Ed also served his country as a proud veteran with the United States Coast Guard. He wore his veteran status like a badge of honor, and his commitment to service shone brightly in his volunteering efforts at the World Trade Center site on 9/11. His pride in both his service to his country and his dedication to helping others in the aftermath of such a tragedy was palpable.He loved to coach his daughters and their friends soccer teams with Weymouth Girls Soccer and was a former board member of Weymouth Girls Basketball.

 Born in Boston, a son of the late Joseph P. Kennedy and Mary (Conroy) Kennedy and he was also the stepson of the late William "Danny" Burke. Ed was a proud native of South Boston and moved to Weymouth in 2011 to raise his girls with Colleen. 

Beloved husband of Colleen M (Callahan) Kennedy of Weymouth. 

Loving father of Patrick, Caroline, and Mairead Kennedy all of Weymouth.

Brother of John "Jack" Kennedy and his wife, Mary, of Weymouth, Elizabeth Beatty of Weymouth, James Kennedy and his wife, Stacey, of Florida, Theresa Kennedy of Boston, and the late Joseph Kennedy, Mary Kennedy, and Robert Kennedy.

Son-in-law of Patty and Ed Callahan of Charlestown.

Brother-in- law of Caitlin Avitable and her husband, Steve, of Abington, and Bridget Callahan and Aileen Callahan both of Charlestown.

 Also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday, June 20th, from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). 

Ed’s Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 21st, in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO CHURCH

Military Honors will take place following his mass outside of church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mass Fallen Heroes Memorial, 85 Northern Avenue, Boston, MA 02210.
