Edward J. Mackey, 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Bette M. Mackey, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.

A carpenter by trade, Ed worked in construction management for more than 40 years. During his many years in construction he worked on multiple buildings that make up the Boston skyline, the work he was most proud of was the construction of the Boston Science Museum’s Mugar Omni Theater. His professional accomplishments were many but his priority in life was supporting, nourishing and loving his family. His life’s work and his growing family leave a lasting legacy across generations.

In addition to his wife, Bette, Ed is survived by his three children: Edward Mackey and his wife, Susan; Heather Dockray and her husband, John; and Christopher Mackey and his wife, Patricia.

He was the grandfather of Kayla Chauvette and her husband, Robert; Shane F. Mackey; Conor F. Mackey; Courtney M. Mackey; Thomas Dockray; and Andrew Dockray and his wife, Josie-Mae. He was also the great-grandfather of Emma and Madison Chauvette.

Ed is survived by his siblings, George Mackey and his wife, Sandy; Mary McCormick and her husband, John; Nancy Langevin; Richard Mackey and his wife, Denise; Dan Mackey and his wife, Sylvia; William Mackey; and Robert Mackey and his wife, Debbie. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Francis David and Stephanie Culhane and her husband, Eddie Rezek.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Mary Mackey, his siblings Eleanor Stone, Alan Mackey, and Suzanne Mackey, and his sister-in-law Naiomi Mulligan.
