Elaine L. Simmons, age 89, of Quincy, MA peacefully passed away on May 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Elaine was born on October 31, 1926, to Ernest and Mary (Connahan) LaPorte in Waltham, MA. She grew up in Charlestown with her siblings. She attended Archbishop Cardinal Cushing High School in South Boston and graduated in 1954. Elaine would further her education by attending Brown University where she took classes in banking and business management. She started working at Brookline Trust as a bank officer. Elaine would later work for Newton Savings Bank where she climbed the corporate ladder and became the Senior Vice-President. Over the years, she built long lasting friendships through her work. Elaine took pride in her career and would give great financial advice to family and friends.
Elaine would meet her beloved husband, Bill and the two would be married in 1975. After her retirement, Elaine and Bill loved to travel to many places but their favorite was their home in Yarmouthport on Cape Cod. She was an avid reader and could often be found sitting on the deck with a book or her kindle on her lap. Elaine cherished her family and friends. She cared deeply for her siblings and loved to spoil her nieces and nephews on holidays.
In her final years, Elaine resided at BrookMeadow Assisted Living in Stoughton, where the staff and residents became like family to her. Her family is eternally grateful for the kindness, compassion and love she received there. Elaine will be remembered for her strength, independence, warmth and lasting impact she had on all who know and loved her.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 37 years, William A. Simmons, her parents, Ernest and Mary M. LaPorte, as well as her siblings, Ernest A. LaPorte, Carol A. O’Toole and John F. LaPorte.
She is survived by her brothers, Donald LaPorte of Marina Bay and Arthur LaPorte and his wife Mary of Quincy. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Brookmeadow Assisted Living in Stoughton, Alliance Health in Marina Bay and the Serenity Hospice for their care and dedication to Elaine during her time with them.
