Eleanor (Duggan) “Ellie” Barrett, 91, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023, peacefully in Hingham.
Beloved wife of the late, Robert F. Barrett, Jr. She is survived by their four sons, Robert Barrett III, and his wife Cynthia, of Hingham; Patrick, and his wife Joan, of Hingham; Stephen, of Jackson, WY; John, and his wife Kristin, of Hingham; nine grandchildren, Robert IV, Alexandria, Abigail, Patrick, Stephen, Eleanor, Nicolaas, Kathleen and Grace; dear sister of the late Patricia M. (Duggan) Faherty and her husband Mike, John Duggan and his wife Mary, and survived by her brother Corneilius Duggan and his wife Pat, and many nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Quincy, MA, she was the youngest of Patrick and Ellen Duggan’s four children. Her childhood was filled with happy memories of time spent at Wollaston beach, on the ocean, one block away from their family home. She graduated from North Quincy High School in 1950 and remained close to those NQHS friends and classmates throughout her life. After graduating from Fisher College in 1951, she went to work at Catholic Charities in Boston. One of her fondest memories as a young woman was the summer that she and her close girlfriends spent traveling through Europe. Upon returning to the states, she met the love of her life, Bob, and they were married in 1957. She worked as assistant to the headmaster at the Millbrook School in New York, while Bob served as the assistant athletic director there. They moved to Bradley Park in Hingham in 1961, Bob’s hometown, where they raised their family. Ellie was active in the Hingham Community and St. Paul’s Church, as a volunteer and CCD teacher.
Ellie was a wonderful and supportive grandmother, and she enjoyed watching her nine grandchildren grow up in Hingham. Wolfeboro, NH was their second home where she and Bob spent time entertaining their family and friends, enjoying the lake, the mountains, and the community of Brewster Academy.
Ellie and Bob enjoyed over 50 years in the Bradley Park neighborhood and spent their last 20 winters together in Naples, Florida with many dear friends they met there.
She leaves a legacy of love of family and faith.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Sunday, December 3, 2023, 2-6 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Monday, December 4, 2023, prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM.
Services will conclude with interment in High Street Cemetery, Hingham.
