Elizabeth Frances "Mimi" (Hook) O'Brien

Elizabeth Frances “Mimi” (Hook) O’Brien, of Pembroke, formerly of North Quincy, died peacefully at home, on Saturday, August 9, 2025. She was 95.

Frances was born in Kittery, Maine on May 4, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Francis and Nellie (Farren) Hook.

Frances was a woman of extraordinary faith, grace, and compassion. She leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and joy. Known affectionately as Mimi by her beloved grandchildren and family, she was truly the heart and soul of those fortunate enough to know her.

Born into humble beginnings and raised during challenging times, Frances’ strength of character was shaped early on. Despite the hardships of growing up in an era often unkind to faithful Catholics, she remained steadfast in her beliefs, drawing strength from her deep-rooted faith and unwavering devotion to Jesus Christ.

Frances was a brilliant student, the valedictorian of her high school class, a member of the National Honor Society, and recipient of a full scholarship to any college in the country. But life would call her in a different direction first. Just before beginning her studies, her beloved father died suddenly in her arms. In an incredible act of love and sacrifice, Frances chose to remain home to care for her mother. Later, she pursued her passion for healing and nursing, graduating at the top of her class from The Carney Hospital School of Nursing. Her nursing career at John Adams Nursing Home in Quincy spanned decades, where she cared for patients with a gentle hand and a devoted heart. She touched countless lives with her peaceful presence, blending science and faith in a way that made her truly unique.

A devout Catholic, Frances was a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in North Quincy. She lived her faith with boldness and humility, founding the Kingdom of God Prayer Community in Quincy and participating actively in the prayer groups at St. Joseph’s Parish. Her spirituality was radiant — her closeness to Jesus was not only felt but visibly lived, through her actions, her words, and her quiet strength. Those around her often felt peace in her presence, and she ministered to others with a joyful heart and unwavering faith.

Outside of her spiritual and professional life, Frances was the life of the party. She loved dancing, laughter, and long car rides. Her joy was infectious, her laughter genuine and uplifting. She knew how to celebrate life and bring people together with warmth and love.

Above all else, Frances cherished her family. She was a devoted mother, a nurturing grandmother, and a constant source of love, wisdom, and support. To her family, she was not only a matriarch but a beacon — of love, strength, faith, and joy.

Elizabeth Frances will be remembered for her loving spirit, her profound faith, her brilliant mind, and her joyful heart. Her impact was immeasurable, and her legacy will live on in the lives she touched, the prayers she led, and the love she gave so freely.

May she now rest in the arms of the Lord she loved so deeply.

Frances was the beloved wife of the late Paul F. O'Brien, who died in 2013. She was the devoted mother of John O’Brien and his wife Diane of Waltham, Ellen Leonard and her husband Edward of Marlboro, Kevin O’Brien and his wife Kristen of Marshfield, Gerard O’Brien of Quincy, Meghan Haggerty and her husband Michael of Plymouth, David O’Brien and his wife Colleen of Plymouth, the late Paul O’Brien and his surviving wife Gail of Duxbury, and the late William O’Brien. Loving mimi of 15 and the loving great mimi of three. Also survived by many loving extended family members.
