Conte, Emilio A. “Emmie” of Hingham, passed away on January 11th at the age of 95 after a period of failing health.
He was born on January 16th, 1926 in Needham and moved to Hingham with his family at an early age. He was the son of the late Omero A. and Antoinetta (Brigida) Conte. Emilio was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy A. (Longo), and his brother Domenic.
He is survived by his sister Fiorinda “Dolly” Tocchio of Hingham, his two sons, Thomas Conte (Janet) of Mobile, AL, and Steven Conte (Laura) of Chelmsford, his daughter Ann Conte of Hingham, his grandchildren Christopher Conte (Emily) of Mobile, AL, Abigail Shattuck of Hoover, AL, Catherine Conte and Elizabeth Conte, both of Chelmsford, and Travis Somers of Huntington Beach, CA, as well as four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Hingham High School, Class of 1943. Emilio was a WWII Army veteran, serving as an Operating Room Technician at Tripler General Hospital in Hawaii and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant prior to his discharge from active duty. He continued his service in the Army Reserve, Yankee Division, and rose to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Upon his discharge following WWII he attended the New England College of Pharmacy receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in 1950. While working and raising a family, he enrolled in graduate school and received his MS degree in Pharmacy from the Mass College of Pharmacy in 1967. Over his long career as a hospital Pharmacist, he was Chief Pharmacist at Massachusetts General Hospital, then Director of Pharmacy at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, before finishing out his career as Staff Pharmacist at the VA Medical Center. He was active in his profession and was a Board Member at Mass College of Pharmacy and a member of the Boston Druggists Association.
Emilio was active in the Sons of Italy Bare Cove Lodge 1850 in Hingham and was a past president. He was also a member of the George H. Mealy Post VFW in Cohasset.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited greet the family during the visiting hours on Saturday, January 22nd from 9-11 AM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM. Burial in Woodside Cemetery, Cohasset.
