DuBeau, Ernest Joseph (Ernie) of Mashpee, formerly of Quincy and Roxbury, died January 14, 2014, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Beloved husband of 65 years to Mary (Greene) DuBeau of Mashpee. Loving father of Suzanne and Walter Austin of Mashpee, Linda and Frank Garofalo of Scituate, Karen and Paul Keefe of Braintree, Mary Beth and Kenny Marsters of Mashpee, Ann Marie and Jack Moore of Braintree and Ernest J., Jr. and Debbie DuBeau of Rockland. Son of the late Ernest DuBeau,Sr. and Mary E. (Lynn). Brother of Anna Powell, Lorraine Bisnaw, James DuBeau and his wife, Mary Lou, and the late Helen, Lucille, Wilma, Richard, Dorothy and Arlene. Cherished grandfather of 20 devoted grandchildren and blessed with 13 sweet great-grandchildren. Also survived by many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
Ernie was born in Boston and grew up in Roxbury. After marriage, he and his wife, Mary, settled in Dorchester and later Quincy and Weymouth and raised their family. After retirement, they moved to Mashpee, where they lived for the past 15 years. Ernie was a self-employed upholsterer for over 50 years. He was known in Quincy as a very loyal, hard-working and generous business man, always offering to help anyone whenever he had the chance. He enjoyed model ship building, bowling, and was an avid whist player and Boston sports fan. Ernie and his wife Mary loved to dance and were enthusiastic followers of Noel Henry’s Irish Show Band. In addition, he loved history, watched the History Channel and was especially versed on the Civil War. He was a member of the McKeon Post in Dorchester for many years. Ernie was a proud WWII Navy Veteran having served on the USS Vincennes CL-64 in the Pacific. Above all, Ernie’s family brought him the most joy. He will be deeply missed by all who are fortunate to have known him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 PM at the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass at Christ the King Church, 3 Job’s Fishing Road, Mashpee, MA 02649, at 11 AM. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ernest may be made to the Brooke DuBeau Fund or Homes For Our Troops, c/o The DuBeau Family, Post Office Box 466, Norwell, MA 02061.
