Evanelle Yvonne “Evie” (Kittelson) Gustafson, a longtime resident of Quincy, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. She was 79.

She was born on July 11, 1946, in St. Peter, Minnesota. The eldest daughter of Clifton Hubert Kittelson of Spring Grove, Minnesota, and Joyce Lucille (Farm) Kittelson of East Chain, Minnesota, she grew up with a quiet strength and a wide range of talents she pursued with humility and devotion.

For more than forty years, Evie made her home in Quincy, Massachusetts, where she and her husband raised their son. Though often described simply as a homemaker, her life extended far beyond that narrow title. She worked in real estate with Tullish & Clancy Real Estate for 20 years, and in church school education at Trinity Episcopal in Boston, and in roles connected to her husband’s academic community at Tufts University. Evie devoted 2 volunteer years with her husband establishing the Tufts Computer Science Library. She had a passion for teaching and music. Evie channeled that energy into teaching middle schoolers music in Ithaca, NY and establishing the children’s choir at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Boston.

Music remained a lifelong passion. In Boston, she volunteered with the Back Bay Chorale under the direction of Lloyd Hill and sang for several years in the choir of Trinity Episcopal Church in Copley Square under Brian Jones. She was devoted and generous to her friends and family, and found joy in cooking, gardening, singing, and playing the piano.

Beloved wife of 51 years to the late Alvar Walter Gustafson. Devoted mother to Erik Karl Gustafson of New York. Evanelle is survived by her sister, Colleen Joyce (Kittelson) Campbell of Illinois; her brother, Douglas Clifton Kittelson of Texas; and their families. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Marcia (Gustafson) Kirchoff of Connecticut and California, and Celia (Gustafson) Gillard of Connecticut and Rhode Island. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family.

A memorial service organized by her extended family will be announced at a later date.
