Frances Elaine (Bourne) Lyons, of Hanover, formerly of Weymouth, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. She was 74.

Elaine was born in Boston on June 7, 1951, and was the daughter of the late Wallace and Nola (Whitney) Bourne. Raised in Jamaica Plain, Elaine attended Boston Public Schools, where her strong sense of independence and no-nonsense attitude first took shape. Later in life, she continued her education with determination and pride, attending Quincy Community College and going on to study business at Northeastern University in her 30s and 40s. This was an accomplishment that reflected her belief that it is never too late to grow and pursue one’s goals.

Elaine found a renewed faith in the second half of her life that brought her a new purpose and great joy. As a young woman, she shared her gift of music in church choirs, using her voice as an instrument of praise and worship. She carried that love of music with her always, finding joy in Christian songs as well as the timeless sounds of Bruce Springsteen and James Taylor.

She spent 30 years living in Weymouth, where she built a life centered around family, friendship, and community. Later, her faith led her on a remarkable journey to Hawaii, where she dedicated her time to church, mission work, and volunteering, touching countless lives with her kindness and generosity. She also spent several years in Georgia with her son, where she remained active in the local senior center before eventually returning to the South Shore of Massachusetts.

Elaine embraced life fully. She was known for her humor, her adventurous spirit, and her willingness to try new things. Whether it was new foods (as long as they weren’t spicy) or new experiences with friends. She cherished time spent with coworkers, often enjoying nights out and making lasting memories.

Above all, Elaine loved her family. She created cherished traditions, including summer trips to Maine and visits to Funtown in Saco, Maine, bringing her children joy and unforgettable experiences. As her children grew, she continued to nurture those connections by spending meaningful, individualized time with each of them. She encouraged their love of learning with frequent trips to the Weymouth libraries.

Elaine and her younger sister Marion shared a special friendship. In their twenties they lived together, sharing wild nights on the town at “The Pub” and forming friendships that would last a lifetime. Their families gathered for nearly every holiday throughout the years. As time went on they stayed as close as ever, spending hours on the phone and sharing sleepovers at Denise and Justin's home.

Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Elaine shared her sweet tooth and love of baking with them, especially her granddaughter Brennan. The two of them could frequently be found baking and creating epic messes in the kitchen. They also shared a love of reading, even forming their own little book club together.

She also had a special bond with her grandson Xavier. When she was living in Georgia he would visit her in her room and she loved sneaking him snacks from her desk. She also loved to hear him play the piano and was very proud of how hard he worked.

She found simple joys in life, a strong cup of coffee in the morning, cold Coca-Cola from a plastic bottle, stopping at a bakery for a treat, and trying the food on other people’s plates. She was an avid reader and often a member of book clubs. Her favorite colors of coral, dusty rose, light purple, and soft pink, reflected the gentle and loving spirit she carried.

Elaine will be remembered as funny, strong, adventurous, loving, and kind. She was a woman who lived her faith, cherished her family, and brought light to all who knew her.

Elaine was the devoted mother of Allen W. Lyons and his wife Toni of Marietta, Georgia, and Denise A. Lyons and her husband Justin Madden of Brockton. She was the loving grandmother of Brennan and Xavier Lyons, both of Marietta, Georgia. Elaine was the dear sister of the late Robert Bourne and his surviving wife Carol of Randolph, the late Marion Petkiewich, late David Bourne and his surviving wife Karen Eisener-Bourne of North Shore, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her former husband, James Lyons. Elaine is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A - Bicknell Square).
