Frances "Fran" Donoian, age 85, of Quincy, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025. Born on October 4, 1939, in Boston, MA, Fran was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Fran was predeceased by her husband, Joe Donoian, and is survived by her daughter, MaryEllen Weikert and her husband Jorgen, as well as her granddaughters, Catherine Pelchat and her husband Bryan, Olivia Gizelis, and her great-granddaughter, Anisten Pelchat. Fran also leaves behind two nephews, John Wallace and Nat Grauman, and is predeceased by her sisters Edith Andrews and Kathleen Ahern.
The daughter of the late John Wallace and Catherine McGee Wallace, Fran's early years were spent in Quincy. Known for her athleticism, she embraced her tomboyish nature, and could often be found playing softball at Sagamore Field. Over time, her athletic pursuits transitioned to tennis, with cherished moments spent on the court alongside her dear friend, the late Dulce Griffin. Additionally, Fran possessed a passion for reading and an unyielding love for delicious food, particularly anything sweetened with chocolate. Fran’s fondness for a good meal and her insatiable appetite became a perpetual joke for husband Joe, whose witty remarks brought laughter and delight to family and friends.
Fran and Joe ventured away from Quincy approximately 37 years ago, making their home in Largo, Florida. There, they enjoyed the warm weather and visits from family. As they faced health challenges, they were fortunate to have the support of Marion Macpherson, a wonderful friend and neighbor, who assisted them with daily care. Their nephew, Tommy Gregoire, would also check in on them to visit and share a few laughs.
In the spring of 2023, Fran and Joe returned to Quincy and reconnected with loved ones and old friends. Following Joe's passing in September 2023, Fran began a new chapter of her life at the Atrium at Faxon Woods Memory Care. Here, she enjoyed frequent visits from her Donoian family and the Burns girls. Fran received exceptional care from an outstanding staff, particularly from nurse Sarah Taylor and Resident Care Associate Patty Jacques, whom Fran affectionately referred to as “my boss.” In her final hours, she was surrounded by those who loved her, offering their prayers and comfort.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life for Fran, honoring a life well-lived and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of all who knew her. Her spirit and the love she shared will forever resonate in the memories of her family and friends. Burial will be at a later date.
